A long and tiring 220 miles today following some fantastic scenery from Fanning Mo, all the way through the awesomely named Uranus (the jokes we’ve had on that one)
On then through Hooker Cut and Devils Elbow unfortunately seeing the devastation caused by the recent floods, but some very resilient people
After a few hours we cut out to the interstate to run the last 100 or so miles to arrive at the wonderful Boots Court Motel in Carthage
Time to have a simple Chinese banquet where Mrs Fogg asked for tea with Milk, only to be given Chinese tea and a cup of milk, which left poor old Kevin in stitches as the waitress looked bemused at a women drinking a Chinese tea then sipping milk and lemonade after each mouthful

So a set off from Springfield Il onto Cuba, first stop the only home that Mr Lincoln owned
Followed by more roadside attractions including Henry’s Rabbit Ranch and the chance for Kevin to meet the man himself
Then onto Cuba via a mammoth Interstate run following the ladies in the support truck
And a nice rack of St Louis Ribs
And a chance to spend the evening chatting to the Biker Boyz from Chicago, Ralph, Paul and Bob
And today onto Carthage via Fanning and the Worlds tallest rocker

After a nights sleep at the less than super 8, on then for a few hours womble in Pontiac, which is one of those places that just feels good.
With the museum to, yes you got it the Pontiac
Onwards to Atlanta and one of the many giants
And a photo opportunity for Kevin who seems to have misunderstood how you stop a train in the US
A more or less full day snaking back and forth along complete sections of Route 66
And the oddest of attractions such as a grain elevator and the worlds tallest covered wagon complete with a rather large Lincoln
Tomorrow is the last day in Illinois as we skirt around St Louis finishing in Cuba Missouri

Today was the start of the road trip from Chicago to Pontiac. In theory a plain sailing (Yeah right!) 85 mile navigation out of busy Chicago and down through Joliet onwards to Pontiac.
Kevin and I in the car and MrFogg on the bike.

Which would have been fine until we lost Mr Fogg somewhere on the four lane (and very busy) I294. Cue a rather stressful hour of “where the hell did he go” until we finally made contact on the phone to find he’d gone a little too far south on the I294 instead of turning off south west into the I55 towards Joliet. So Kevin and I pulled up in Romeoville and sat watching traffic, counting cars, school buses, Harley’s and cross legged waiting for him. An hour or so later…..thank goodness, he’d found the route and popped into sight!

On then for a very good run all the way to Pontiac, without us managing to lose Mr Fogg this time.

With early evening closing in we finally pulled into our motel for the night. It certainly isn’t the Ritz……nor is it quite the Bates Motel but it’s clean and has beds.

Tomorrow we will go explore lovely downtown Pontiac, a favourite from our last trip.
No, not a viagra related tag line, but part of the setting for the Matrix
On then to allow Mrs Fogg and Kevin a photo opportunity, only for one of them to let out a really big trump
With more of the wonderful Chicago skyline
And a view from the Old Navy Pier
Followed by a visit to the Chicago Union Station modelled on New York’s Grand Central
Complete with the double decker Amtrak trains
Then a chance to see the giant polished pebble sculpture
And a paddle in the arty water park, with giant electronic displays of Chicago residents
So with tomorrow seeing the start of the Route66 adventure, it was only fitting to start at the very beginning of Route66

First night in Chicago and a stay at the rather funky ACME hotel that has chalk boards on the door

Sorry I just had to do it! And we got 3 knocks during the night
And a silly Amazon Echo that listens to everything you say.
All told very funky, a good find Mrs Fogg. Today we womble round the Windy City
