What a funky little town, the type of place we love, a single Main Street nestled between mountains with spectacular views and nice eateries. this place has the feel of Austin, Pinochet, Tonopah (all in Nevada) and Williams Arizona.
Sushi again tonight and then a chance to sit and people watch before retiring to the sweat box hotel.
The houses HERE start at CA$800,000 for a 2 bed 1 bath studio, up to CA$2,000,000 for a 3 bed house with 1 acre of land
We are currently sat atop Mnt Habrich in the Stawanus Chief National Park sitting 2,904ft above the Howe Sound.
The gondola ride is amazing as are the views at the top and the freaky suspension bridge which Mrs Fogg was really spooked on as it sways when you walk.
Today will see us leaving the wonderful Bates Motel on the Lake and taking another ferry this time back to the mainland and civilisation (boo). On the way back we will stop for a cable car ride HERE
So this is the cheapest hotel we are stopping in at a paltry £170 for the night (yup Canadian prices are astronomic). This place, resembling something from a 1950s slasher set, has the ricipshonist wiv clip inglish, “do you have a restaurant on-site” “No Fuud”, “is there anything nearby?”, “vend macheen”. Ok so she ain’t that bad, but not far off.
“Where is the hotel room”, “secund floor, around here”, as she just waves her arms in a circle. Up we go in the lift to find our room, let’s look at the guide to find room 214!!!!!!
A drizzly start from Tofino on the 150km route to Nanaimo where we will bed for the night. We’ve already had to pull off at a surfers beach in a howling gale and now we had to stop at a tourist info shed that in Mrs Fogg’s words was “rubbish”.
And last night was sushi at the Tough City Sushi with an awesome array of sake, yum.
I saw one of these featured on “The Long Way Up”, an awesome vehicle and one the UK should get building quickly. I want one of these, a Rivian. All electric SUV, awesome.
