Gila to Globe

So we did consider stopping for a second night at the Casita but a reality check of a 2hr min round trip to the closest supermarket to get food for the night meant we decided to drive on and continue our journey.

But first we had to drive back out of the dirt roads of the Casitas. Good job we had a Jeep then eh! Let’s go off-roading…

This is looking back from the dirt road at our Casita. Nope, not the buildings you can easily see, look to the left and you can just about see roofs in the middle of greenery. That’s the Casitas.

So here we are in Globe. A basic town in the middle of some incredible scenery but nothing really that holds any interest.

The interesting piece of the journey was traversing the Old West Highway (US-70). What a road, it’s a mountain pass that winds up and down, cuts through Gila National Forest, Apache National Forest and open grassland plains, not to mention open scrub at high elevation (cactus again anyone). A lovely road and so much scenery.

You can just about see the road we came down on this mountain.

And now for food. Most places are shut on Sundays so it’s off to Irene’s for Mexican. And Mrs Fogg decided to attempt a Chicken, Bean and Green Chilli Chimichanga, you can just about make the fire coming out of her ears
