Beanbags for Cows

image
While we were out in NZ one of the guides on a tour we took told us an interesting story.

Apparently while escorting a bunch of tourists (we won’t share their US nationality, but you can take a guess) one asked what the round plastic balls were for in the fields. “Ah” says the guide “Those are a great invention, they’re beanbags for cows. The cows come along at night and flop into them to get a good nights sleep and when finished of course they can then munch on the beds, what a cool idea”.

“Oh wow!” says the tourist “I must tell the guys back home about them, we don’t have them and they would be so good!”.

It’s the little things that remind you of all the good times.

Tourists eh?

On an udder note (sorry) whilst the weather has been close to Friesan and we need to wear Jerseys (oh stop it now), we hope to share some news related to “big water” very soon. Fingers crossed.

Time to enjoy the rest of the day before that work called thing comes around again.

Look into My Eyes

One possessed cat haunting the bed. He’s not yet achieved levitation however the handstand looks pretty cool and the haunting screetches are loud.

Scary cat!

Nice Start to First Day Back

image
First day back to work after 21 days holiday an this is what you get, rear ended by a silly sod busy looking at an accident on the opposing carriageway. Poor little love was really shaken up!

Next stop Insurance claims, car out of action for weeks and hassle with insurance payments.

Oh well, the week has to get better, hopefully (guess that’s one way to get more time off).

Back to the cold

image
Ah back to the cold dull skies. Rather a shock to the system after very different colour skies in NZ, we are used to deep blues rather than the mucky greys of Yorkshire and flat scenery.

Tomorrow is the dreaded return to work and the start of a year without holidays, now ok we know we are a very spoilt pair who can usually manage loads of holidays and that it’s far more normal to just have the one break, but you have to factor in that we are just a little nuts too.

Mr Fogg is already depressed and has donned his new t shirt designed especially for him and I’ve donned a woolly hat and refuse to remove it.

Cases are still packed, laundry all yet to do but at least Mr Spike is deliriously happy. Has not stopped purring loudly since we picked him up yesterday. He too is cold having spent a month lounging under his very own heat lamp so last night was a fight for the duvet. The cat won.

Just to excite you all we have counted up and have taken 2500 pictures plus a load more on the video camera and hours of footage. Mr and Mrs Lucky have already foolishly said they would love to see them all. We estimate that will mean spending at least a couple of months staying in Tyddyn to get through them all ( tee hee).

So we are now waiting for Spring with bated breath and looking forward to Christmas Day in March with the Finks. We plan to get all festive!!!

The goal for the next few weeks is to ensure we have stuff planned in for weekends to look forward too. Suggestions on a postcard please…first goal is to rewatch ALL the LOTR films to see the scenery again. We started last night, only another two and a half films to get through- extended versions too so hours and hours and hours.

NZ Out

image
And that is that, We got off our home for the last 27 hours and have no idea whether it’s Fri, Sat or Sun?

NZ rocks, as you can tell we are so glad to be back in the UK where the big bright warm ball in the sky is but a thing of fairy tales.

Oh well Mrs Fogg, better plan another trip fast!

Back to the UK here.

A Distant Memory

image
Ah but a distant memory sat atop the Gondola ride from Queenstown with spectacular views in the distance.

After a wobbly start; delayed in Christchurch for 40 minutes, rushed to Auckland and left in a passport control queue for an age with just 3 controllers and the gate closing for the LA flight, we eventually touched down at LA 11.12am NZ time (Sat 18 Feb), 2.12pm LA time (Fri 17 Feb), some 21 hours before we set off (gotta love time travelling).

So we will be back onboard the plane at 4pm LA time heading back to the COLD.

Have we missed the snow?

Taking my hat off to Mrs Fogg for planning and arranging a superb last 4 weeks 6231 miles from here.

Boo Hoo

image
Its been a fantastic month and we have seen so much that makes us want to come back here again. Stood here at Christchurch Airport debating should we, shouldn’t we, or is that just me (think I know the answer there).

Bags all checked in, Mrs Fogg much lighter on her itinery paperwork (I’m sure the wine and food may have replaced a little of that weight).

So the bags are off to Heathrow, are we?Chexk in 27 hours and see.

Will they won’t they be on a plane from here.

There and Back Again a Foggy Tale

A final womble by the sea after a 3 hour drive from Geraldine to Akaroa on the East Cost of the South Island for Fish and Chips.

Now it’s a 2 hour drive to Christchurch Airport, dump the car and fly to Auckland, then LA, then Heathrow, then Manchester. See y’all in 27 hours. We set off at 8.30pm on Fri 17 Feb and land into London at 7.30am Saturday after going across the International Date Line. We is Time Travellers, We is! Well apart from the fact that the Christchurch to Auckland flight is showing as cancelled, uh oh trapped here we hope

Leaving Paradise here.

A last NZ Breakfast

image
After promptly leaving the Scenic Route Motel in Geraldine last night (after hating the “last room available”), we skid addled and found the wonderful “The Downs” B&B on the edge of town where we spent a very comfortable evening.

At midnight last night we watched our last NZ star show which was simply amazing, seeing the shooting stars, satellites and galaxies.

One more day left to get to Christchurch airport and enjoy the glorious clear skies with 20plus degrees of heat.

Our last NZ Breakfast was here.
