Natural World

It’s 10pm and the weather is glorious. Sitting in the garden in York it is a gentle reminder of Wales and how close to nature you can get, and how far away from it you can become.

At 10pm I can hear the rustle of the wind through the Poplar trees, birds who have returned to their nests to settle for the night chirp a last chorus to the descending night. Pipistrel bats swoop and glide effortlessly across the evening sky, owls hoot in the distance echoing through the sky and in the garden leaves twitch as if some other creatures are stirring into life in the undergrowth.

This is nature. Not computer screens and bland office spaces filled with politics and egos, but the natural order, wind, life, air.

As the night sky descends further and darkness creeps in I can hear cows in the far field sharing their last conversations, a distant plane carrying people off to distant shores or back again and again, the wind ruffling the trees and causing them to sway gently.

This is why we choose to live in the countryside, this connection with living things, all too often forgotten during the daily grind, all too often missed during the 9 to 5 back and from work. And yet, one quiet sit on a bench in the garden, one peaceful moment to listen to the birds and it all comes to you.

Beautiful nature.

Good night
