Illinois

After eventually being reunited with my travelling companions, we did find some cool Route66 attractions

I mean look at how hot this photo looks, so cool, sleek and so sexy, oh and Mrs Fogg is in there as well)

Detours and Tours

Today was the start of the road trip from Chicago to Pontiac.  In theory a plain sailing   (Yeah right!) 85 mile navigation out of busy Chicago and down through Joliet onwards to Pontiac.

Kevin and I in the car and MrFogg on the bike.

Which would have been fine until we lost Mr Fogg somewhere on the four lane (and very busy) I294.  Cue a rather stressful hour of “where the hell did he go” until we finally made contact on the phone to find he’d gone a little too far south on the I294 instead of turning off south west into the I55 towards Joliet.  So Kevin and I pulled up in Romeoville and sat watching traffic, counting cars, school buses, Harley’s and cross legged waiting for him.  An hour or so later…..thank goodness, he’d found the route and popped into sight!

On then for a very good run all the way to Pontiac, without us managing to lose Mr Fogg this time.

With early evening closing in we finally pulled into our motel for the night.  It certainly isn’t the Ritz……nor is it quite the Bates Motel but it’s clean and has beds.

Tomorrow we will go explore lovely downtown Pontiac, a favourite from our last trip.

Up and Out

Time to go to collect the bike and car this am, so breakfast of champions time, a pain of chocolate the size of your face.

You Take the Blue Pill

No, not a viagra related tag line, but part of the setting for the Matrix

On then to allow Mrs Fogg and Kevin a photo opportunity, only for one of them to let out a really big trump

With more of the wonderful Chicago skyline

And a view from the Old Navy Pier

Followed by a visit to the Chicago Union Station modelled on New York’s Grand Central

Complete with the double decker Amtrak trains

Then a chance to see the giant polished pebble sculpture

And a paddle in the arty water park, with giant electronic displays of Chicago residents

So with tomorrow seeing the start of the Route66 adventure, it was only fitting to start at the very beginning of Route66

Welcome to the ACME

First night in Chicago and a stay at the rather funky ACME hotel that has chalk boards on the door

Sorry I just had to do it! And we got 3 knocks during the night

Funky bathroom

A really comfy bed

And a silly Amazon Echo that listens to everything you say.

All told very funky, a good find Mrs Fogg. Today we womble round the Windy City

And Finally we arrive

12 hours later we have arrived into Chicago in the middle of a thunderstorm and heavy rains, oh and rush hour.

It took a while to get through traffic on our airport shuttle coach but we made it.

So what to do when you are absolutely shattered, it’s torrential rain and you’ve arrived in the dark?  Eat of course, and where better than the rather convenient Weber Grill restaurant- yes that Weber lot famous for big barbecue machines.  It just had to be sampled.

And so to bed…in our rather cool hotel.
